Business Continuity The Business Advantage

Thinking Differently

One of the biggest advantages that you can have in business is to have access to people who can think differently. For example, when we first start working with our clients on Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery, they often consider it to be something that has to be done, almost a cost of doing business today. At Fifth Step though, we believe in the value of thinking differently

, and we believe that well formed and tested BCP is the expression of a well run organisation, and will ensure that the organisation can not only recover quickly from an incident, but can also be used to examine processess for opportunity for improvement. Having a good business continuity capability also helps ensure your business thrives when less prepared competitors suffer incidents.

Big Crises…What are the Odds of that?

Remember BCP isn’t all about big crises (see our recent post: Business Continuity, its not just about Disasters), and is far more about your organisation having a framework in place to be able to recognise and deal with an incident quickly and efficiently, as well as knowing that your processes and procedures are tested and up to date. Consider a test of your business continuity capabilities in the same way would consider a fire drill…a well organised company will conduct regular fire drills…similarly a well organised company will ensure their business continuity and disaster recovery capability is maintained and tested regularly.

Review? Why bother?

We consider, every review and every audit to be a feedback opportunity, all of this feedback is added into the information considered by the Continual Service Improvement review (these are conducted every 3 months typically), this enables your business to learn and improve based on what has changed, and the feedback given it also allows your business to make small course corrections along the way, meaning it can adapt at a better pace and be using information, processes and procedures that are aligned with where your business is today, not where it was 18 months ago.

Your Next Steps

If you have a need for people who can think differently to help your business to become the best that it can be, or if your organisation’s business continuity needs testing or improving then please feel free to ask a question of Fifth Step’s Business Continuity Team who will ensure you get back on the right path.
